An FIR was lodged against the guilty and the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, will come up with its report within 15 days,” Ms. Mufti told the Assembly.Withdrawal of FIRShe said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman “shared her anguish and has assured to take appropriate measures”.“The Army as an institution has done a great job, but the grace of an institution only enhances once the black sheep within are identified and weeded out,” she said.The ruling PDP’s stand on the issue is contrary to that of the BJP, which criticised the police for lodging the FIR against the Army. R.S. Pathania, a BJP MLA, again demanded withdrawal of the FIR against the Army.“The government should lodge a fresh FIR without naming anyone. Why are serious charges levelled against the Army,” Mr. Pathania asked.Scores of separatists held street protests in Srinagar against the Shopian killings.‘Engage in dialogue’Ms. Mufti said incidents like Shopian “remind us that we cannot afford confrontation at any level and there is an urgent need to engage in a meaningful dialogue at all levels, including between India and Pakistan”.Her statement came after the Opposition parties, including the National Conference, the Congress, the CPI(M) and the People’s Democratic Front created a ruckus in the Assembly and sought an adjournment motion to discuss the killing of two young men when Army fired at “stone-throwing protesters” on Saturday afternoon.NC working president and former CM Omar Abdullah accused Ms. Mufti “of only knowing how to play politics over the dead”.“On one hand, the government ordered a magisterial probe and on the other, registered an FIR against the Army,” Mr. Abdullah said.
