A railway court here has framed charges under the Railways Act against Gurdaspur MP Sunny Deol and film actress Karisma Kapoor in a 22-year-old case of alleged chain pulling in a train at Naraina station in Rajasthan during the shooting for a film. The two actors challenged the order through a revision petition in a sessions court on Wednesday.Mr. Deol and Ms. Kapoor had allegedly entered the Naraina railway station, near Phulera Junction, in 1997 and stopped the 2413-A Uplink Express by pulling its chain, which delayed the train by 25 minutes.

Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppIt was a miracle on Millennium Highway when a tiny car rear ended a huge dump truck on Sunday afternoon here in Provo. The family in that car was visibly shaken by the smash up, which could have been so much worse. The car was totaled in the collision; the windshield shattered, the entire front end pulverized by the impact and parts of the vehicle ripped off, and left on the roadway. Miraculously, it appeared all in the accident were okay. There was also evidence over the weekend of a vehicle careening off of Leeward Highway into signage near the Beaches roundabout heading west. Speed continues to be labeled a significant factor in these traffic accidents despite the heightened police presence and revved up road traffic department signage. Related Items:

RBI governor Shaktikanta Das.Photo: ReutersThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will remain vigilant and strive to revive growth in Asia’s third-largest economy, as well as pushing to maintain macroeconomic, financial and price stability, its governor said in a speech on Friday.India lost momentum in the final quarter of 2018, reducing its annual rate of economic growth to 6.6 per cent, the slowest pace in five quarters and much less than expected. But RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the country’s real gross domestic product (GDP) growth was expected to reach 7.2 per cent in the fiscal year to March 2020, which he described as the strongest among the world’s large economies.India’s annual retail inflation rate rose in March to 2.86 per cent, from 2.57 per cent in the previous month, but remained below the central bank’s target for an eighth straight month, increasing the chances for a key interest rate cut in June.”Inflation has remained below target, averaging 3.6 per cent for the period under the inflation targeting framework so far,” Das said in the speech, uploaded on the RBI website early on Saturday. He said he was referring to the period from October 2016 to February 2019.The RBI has lowered its retail inflation forecast to 3.8 per cent by January-March 2020 but warned it could be higher if food and fuel prices climb abruptly, or if fiscal deficits overshot targets.India’s current account deficit is expected to be around 2.5 per cent of GDP in 2018-19 and the gross fiscal deficit has kept to budgetary targets, he added.Das underscored the risks facing emerging market economies such as a India as global growth and trade weaken.”There is considerable uncertainty as to whether this weakness is temporary or the beginning of a recession in advanced economies,” Das said, adding that central banks around the world were not tightening monetary policy, with some even promoting easier lending conditions. The RBI cut its policy interest rate by 25 basis points earlier this month, in a widely expected move to boost the economy at a time Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a second term in a national election.Emerging market economies also remain exposed to financial market volatility, Das said, and financial conditions could heighten existing stress on the balance sheets of lending institutions in some countries.
Hosni Mubarak, the former Egyptian autocrat toppled during the 2011 Arab Spring, left a military hospital on Friday where he spent much of the last six years in detention. The release of the 88-year old who ruled Egypt for three decades would have been unthinkable several years ago, but revolutionary fervour gave way to exhaustion and even nostalgia in the uprising’s chaotic aftermath.Mubarak had been cleared for release earlier this month after a top court finally acquitted him of involvement in protester deaths during the 2011 revolt that ousted him.”Yes,” his lawyer Farid al-Deeb told AFP when asked if Mubarak had left the hospital on Friday. He added the Mubarak had gone home to a villa in Cairo’s Heliopolis district.Mubarak was accused of inciting the deaths of protesters during the 18-day revolt, in which about 850 people were killed as police clashed with demonstrators. He was sentenced to life in jail in 2012 in the case, but an appeals court ordered a retrial which dismissed the charges two years later.Egypt’s top appeals court on March 2 acquitted him of involvement in the killings.Throughout his trial prosecutors had been unable to provide conclusive evidence of Mubarak’s complicity — a result, lawyers said, of having hastily put together the case against him in 2011 following demonstrations. In January 2016, the appeals court upheld a three-year prison sentence for Mubarak and his two sons on corruption charges. But the sentence took into account time served. Both of his sons, Alaa and Gamal, were freed. On Thursday, a court ordered a renewed corruption investigation into Mubarak for allegedly receiving gifts from the state owned Al-Ahram newspaper. He is also banned from travel.- Nostalgia -Meanwhile several key activists in the 2011 uprising are now serving lengthy jail terms, and rights groups say hundreds of others have been forcibly disappeared. The anti-Mubarak revolt ushered in instability that drove away tourists and investors, taking a heavy toll on the economy and leading to nostalgia for his rule. His successor Mohamed Morsi, an Islamist, ruled for only a year after his 2012 election before the military overthrew him, prompted by massive protests against his Muslim Brotherhood group.Morsi’s overthrow ushered in a deadly police crackdown that killed hundreds of protesters demanding his reinstatement. The military chief who toppled him, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, won election as president the following year.Morsi’s overthrow helped rehabilitate some Mubarak-era politicians, including a former senior member of his National Democratic Party who served as prime minister under Sisi. Most of Mubarak’s associates have been cleared in corruption trials, and police officers charged with violence during the revolt have been acquitted.”Mubarak’s trial lasted six years and public opinion became bored of it,” said Mostafa Kamel al-Sayed, an analyst and political science professor in Cairo University.Sisi and the powerful military have not fully embraced the former regime, and continue to praise the January-February revolt that brought it down. But critics say they have limited freedoms even more than Mubarak. Some who participated in the protests against Mubarak said they felt the uprising was in vain.”Honestly, I found that all of that was useless,” said Ahmed Mohamed, 29.Mohamed had been among the thousands of protesters who took to Cairo’s Tahrir Square demanding Mubarak’s fall.”Mubarak’s time was a lot better in all aspects,” he said after the prosecution ordered Mubarak’s release. In the few years before his overthrow, Mubarak had begun to loosen his grip on political life and the media, allowing for some protests and criticism. But police abuses and economic grievances remained.

Kolkata: Revellers in the city may be looking at an acute shortage of Ola and Uber cabs in the next two days, as over 5,000 vehicles are slated to be taken off the road. In a statement on Monday, the West Bengal Online Cab Operators Guild claimed that their delegation had visited the office of Uber in Salt Lake, to address multiple issues. The cab drivers are not getting the same rate of fare as regular AC cabs and are also getting their driver IDs blocked over small issues. When they tried to put their agenda forth, they were allegedly heckled out of Uber’s office, which offended the drivers. As a result, they decided to boycott duty until Wednesday. However, Madan Mitra, president of the guild, has urged them to consider the problems people would face in the festive rush.
