The wait for a proper Halo game on Microsoft’s new console has officially been announced, so get ready to hurry up and wait.Remember that crazy Halo trailer from E3 last year where the Master Chief was inexplicably cloaked in rags (despite wearing his iconic armor) wandering through a desert on some planet somewhere, only to find this hulking structure emerge from the ground and unfold into some kind of giant menacing bird? It was Microsoft’s promise that the Halo story was not over, and that their next-gen console would have a Halo game that blew our minds at least one more time. We now know that this game will be called Halo 5: Guardians, but we also now know that there’s going to be a bit of a wait to play it.The image Microsoft released for Guardians is accompanied by an explanation of just how big this new Halo adventure is going to be. Microsoft is building this game up to be an even greater undertaking than the previous one, and was sure to remind us that the Halo TV series that is coming to the Xbox One next year will tie into this new experience. We see what looks like a new character standing mirror opposite Spartan 117 in the image Microsoft shared with us, but there is no explanation for whether or not this is just John in new armor or anything. If there’s one thing we can count on, it’s that news will trickle in about this game for the next year starting now. We’ll see tech demos, storyboards, and eventually some sort of closed beta for the dramatic overhaul of one aspect of the game or another. It’s just enough to get Halo fans excited, but not enough for anyone to actually know what is going on for a while. It’s exciting stuff, but marking the calendar that far out is painful.
